A Message from the Principal

November 16, 2018

Dear PS 64 Families,

There’s only one way to begin this letter and that is by acknowledging the sacrifices made last night by the entire teaching staff, who braved the hazards of the first snow storm and stayed late for parent-teacher conferences. Many of our teachers travel a great distance to be here and some did not get home last night until midnight. We don’t say it enough, but we will say it now. Thank you, teachers, for your service. PS 64 is truly a special place.

  • Thanksgiving Turkeys: We have an abundance of turkeys. Through the generosity of Assembly Member Harvey Epstein, we have 15 additional turkeys to go with the 50 donated by the Knights of Columbus. Please contact Parent Coordinator Gladys Concepcion if you’d like a turkey, or two.
  • Lunch/Recess Detention: In an effort to correct some behavioral concerns, we are going to begin a lunch/recess “detention” period for students who misbehave while in school. If your child loses the communal lunch and recess privilege for the day, you will be notified by the teacher and s/he will be required to complete a reflection essay with ways to make better choices. Mr. Illi will coordinate this in room 236 during the lunch period. We’re hoping that this will help improve student behavior and we need you to support us with this.

Next week we officially begin the holiday season with the great tradition of Thanksgiving. Let us all give thanks for the abundance in our lives. Let us also share that very abundance with those less fortunate.

Many blessings to you and your family. Have a safe and joyful Thanksgiving.
